In Goldings fiction, Lord of the Flies, Simon serves as the spiritual, Christ-like archetype. He is portrayed as the shy boy with a fainting illness that is in tune with nature and likes helping others. His purpose in the novel is to show how there are good people in the world that always look for truth without being septic by sliminess.
