Pavlovs response had a profound yield on the culture of the theory of perfect conditioning behavior. Edward C. Tolman, whoremonger B. Watson and B.F. mule driver all profited from experiments conducted by Pavlov. Each developed a theory which led to the evolution of behaviorism. Although these theories were in many shipway relevant to each other, they were distinctly different. Edward Tolman studied or focused on the mental processes involved in behaviorism, John Watson was at the forefront of classical behavior and as such open up doors for B.F. Skinners theories on radical behaviorism. Many practices of child development canful be traced back to John Watson, the father of behaviorism, and his beliefs in classical conditioning. Tolmans views on cognitive behavior differed from both Watson and Skinner. This root will examine and compare each of these mens theories and show how each relate to the field of psychology in modern times.
Edward C. Tolman was a behaviorist.
Tolmans views on behaviorism differed from those of Skinner and Watson in that Tolman believed that instead of showing a stimulus to response relationship, behaviorism was instead a response to stimuli. Edward Tolman believed that humans, as salutary as animals could learn without reward. Tolman conducted experiments with mice, (white mice are prevalent in science laboratory studies today as a result) navigating various mazes with any rewards of pabulum waiting for them at the end of the maze. These experiments were instrumental in the development of the theory of latent learning and led to Tolman beingness seen as somewhat of a cognitive behaviorist.
