Corporate Greed in Expense of the Environment
The Barbie doll, an American icon, was produced by Mattel, a United States corporation, from 1959 until 2002. later on 2002, the turnout of Barbie dolls was outsourced to China in order to reduce spiraling American campaign and material costs. Since Chinese workers typically earn only a fraction of the wages of a typical American laborer, this outsourcing would have been especially appealing to Mattel, because of the increased dough it offered to the giant company.
Mattel, realizing sizable profits because of the above-mentioned decreased labor costs, turned its attention toward further expanding its profit margins. It allowed the Chinese producers to transform the materials used to produce the dolls. This decision allowed the Chinese doll manufacturers to implement a more than economical material in the production of the doll. This new product would guarantee less doll breakage, more product resiliency, and less expensive shipping costs collectable to the reduced weight of the product.



The decision was finalized to utilize a bone marrow called PBT to replace heavier and more fragile porcelain figures. PBT would eliminate two to 3 firings of the porcelain in the kiln, thus wiping out any damage caused to the system through cracking or warping. It would eliminate the need to manually clean the greenware, or unfired clay of the porcelain figures. Elimination of this process would tick perfect bodies with lowly labor. In short, all flaws in, as well as damage to the doll bodies would be virtually nonexistent.
