Harlem

Langston Hughes poem, Harlem, focuses on the frustration that characterized the mood of American blacks.
In the bill, What happens to a dream deferred?, Hughes is asking a rhetorical head. He answers his hunt with a series of other questions. When the speaker says,
Does it dry up
homogeneous a raisin in the sun?
hes verbalize or asking if it (the dream) gets sweeter and sweeter in time. The longer one waits to notice their dream(s), or make it come true, the memory, or thought of it becomes nicer and kind, though itll never happen because he writes, does it dry up?
Or fester like a sore-
and then run?
A wound thats left untreated and uncared for gets swollen, irritated and infected. So, Hughes is suggesting that a dream left unattended grows more irritable by the second, until it eventually runs.
The absorb, Does it stink like rotten meat? is symbolization for the one persons dream never natural event and never be lived up.
Hughes then asks another rhetorical question:
Or does it crust and sugar over-
Like a cloying sweet?
Hughes uses carefully picked out words in line 8 (syrupy sweet) to form an alliteration.
